The key to hormones is balance.
During and after menopause estrogen are produced by the adrenal glands and not your ovaries (which goes into retirement). Your estrogen are supposed to drop after menopause. But, progesterone might even drop more – which affects the ratio between the two hormones – making it ‘believe’ estrogen levels are actually higher (or estrogen dominant).
An enzyme, called Aromatase converts testosterone into estrogen. Your main goal during this period is to regulate your estrogen levels. What is the difference between a gland and an organ? The main function of a gland is to produce hormones. Organs don’t (with the exception of the liver). The liver breaks down the hormone to be effective for use. The liver and the microbiome (the gut) is instrumental in effective estrogen use. If you have been on birth control pills, or antibiotics, eating the ‘Western Diet’ or stressed, your microbiome is depleted and ineffective in converting your estrogen levels for effective use.
| Estrogen Deficient | Estrogen Dominant |
| MOOD | MOOD |
| brain-fog, forgetfulness, poor concentration, anxiety, | snappy, short-tempered, impatient, nervousness, |
| depression, mood swings | irritable |
| BODY | BODY |
| hot flushes, night sweats, hair loss, weight gain | weight gain, nausea, sugar cravings, bloating |
| insomnia | sleep disturbances |
| CYCLE | CYCLE |
| low libido, reduced fertility, | fibroids, ovarian cysts, PCOS, heavy menstrual |
| vaginal / bladder infections, | bleeding, clotting, PMS, endometriosis |
| irregular or no menstrual cycles | breast tenderness, weepy, joint pain |
Your body makes three types of Estrogen
Estradiol E2 (the most common type in women of child bearing age)
Estriol E3 (the main Estrogen during pregnancy)
Estrone E1 (the only Estrogen your body makes after menopause)
“Female hormones” typically refer to the hormones that play key roles in regulating the female reproductive system, menstrual cycle, pregnancy, and overall health. In your 28-day cycle – you spike in estrogen production during ovulation (day 14). Here’s a breakdown of the primary female hormones and their functions:
1. Estrogen
Produced by: Ovaries (mainly), adrenal glands, and fat tissue.
Function:
Regulates menstrual cycle
Promotes development of female secondary sex characteristics (breasts, wider hips)
Helps maintain bone density and cardiovascular health
Prepares the uterine lining for pregnancy
2. Progesterone
Produced by: Ovaries (corpus luteum), and placenta during pregnancy
Function:
Prepares the uterus for implantation of a fertilized egg
Supports early stages of pregnancy
Regulates the menstrual cycle alongside estrogen
3. Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH)
Produced by: Pituitary gland
Function:
Stimulates the growth of ovarian follicles in the ovary before the release of an egg.
4. Luteinizing Hormone (LH)
Produced by: Pituitary gland
Function:
Triggers ovulation (release of the egg from the ovary)
Stimulates the corpus luteum to produce progesterone
5. Testosterone
Produced by: Ovaries and adrenal glands (in small amounts)
Function:
Supports libido (sex drive).
Helps with bone strength and muscle mass
Important for overall hormonal balance
6. Prolactin
Produced by: Pituitary gland
Function:
Stimulates breast development and milk production after childbirth
7. Oxytocin
Produced by: Hypothalamus and released by the pituitary gland
Function:
Involved in labor contractions and milk ejection during breastfeeding
Plays a role in bonding and maternal behaviors
8. Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG)
Produced by: Placenta during pregnancy.
Function:
Maintains the corpus luteum in early pregnancy, supporting progesterone production.
Hormonal Changes Over Life Stages:
Puberty: Surge in estrogen and progesterone initiates menstrual cycles and development of secondary sex characteristics
Menstrual Cycle: Cyclic changes in FSH, LH, estrogen, and progesterone
Pregnancy: High levels of estrogen, progesterone, and hCG
Menopause: Decrease in estrogen and progesterone; ends menstrual cycles

The Jogging Lifestyle
When last did your body give you a compliment? When last did your body say thank you to you? Has it been so long that you can’t even remember that such a thing exists? When last did endorphins kick in? My story and background.
I chose jogging – no gym + long-term fees + subscriptions, no expensive equipment, flexible times, outdoors (vitamin D). Choose the type, duration, intensity, and recovery period.

Intermittent Fasting
Intermittent fasting (IF) is a simple, flexible, and free approach to eating that alternates between fed and fasted states. During the fed state, the pancreas secretes insulin to move sugar into cells. For individuals with insulin resistance (e.g., Type II diabetes), the pancreas produces excess insulin to compensate, leading to fat storage. In the fasted state, insulin levels drop, allowing the body to access fat stores for energy.
